Benoquin Monobenzone Cream In Pakistan

Here is a detailed description of Benoquin Cream (Monobenzone) — what it is, how it works, its uses, risks, and important precautions. This is for informational purposes only and is not a substitute for medical advice. You should consult a qualified dermatologist or physician before using it.café au-lait spots, sun damage, melanoma, jaundice, and other pigmentation problems not caused by vitiligo should not be treated with monobenzone.

What is Benoquin Cream:

The active ingredient is monobenzone (the monobenzyl ether of hydroquinone). It is a topical depigmenting agent, designed to remove or reduce skin pigment (melanin) in certain conditions.A typical commercial formulation (e.g., Benoquin Cream 20%) contains ~ 200 mg monobenzone per gram (i.e., ~20% w/w) in a water-washable cream base.

Indication / Intended Use:

Benoquin is indicated for “final depigmentation” in patients with extensive idiopathic vitiligo (when a very large portion of the body surface area is affected).Specifically, it is for use on normal pigmented skin adjacent to or surrounding vitiligo-affected areas in order to create a more uniform skin appearance. It is not designed for general cosmetic skin-lightening in people without vitiligo.

How it works:

The exact mechanism is not fully understood. What is known: Monobenzone appears to increase the removal (“excretion”) of melanin from melanocytes and may destroy melanocytes (the cells that produce pigment). This leads to permanent depigmentation of the treated skin.Because the pigment-producing cells are destroyed, once depigmentation occurs, the skin is unable to produce melanin again in that area.

Dosage / How to Use:

Use under the supervision of a dermatologist. Many sources say: apply a thin layer of the cream to the affected area(s) of normal pigmented skin (not vitiligo patches).Frequency: Often 2-3 times daily (or as directed by the physician) for the duration required.Important: Because the process takes time, visible changes may take months (e.g., 1-4 months for initial effect) depending on the individual and surface area.During treatment and afterwards, it’s critical to protect treated areas from sun/UV exposure (see Precautions).

Major Risks / Side Effects / Precautions:

The treatment produces irreversible depigmentation in the treated areas. Once the pigment-cells are destroyed, the effect is permanent.Because melanin helps protect against UV radiation, treated (depigmented) skin is far more vulnerable to sunburn, photodamage, and perhaps skin cancers if not properly protected.Common side-effects: redness, irritation, dryness, flaking of the treated skin.Unintended depigmentation (i.e., spreading beyond the intended area) may occur. It is contraindicated for use in conditions other than its indicated use (e.g., it should not be used for freckles, melasma, café?au?lait spots, pigmentation from other causes).Must not be used in individuals with known sensitivity/allergy to monobenzone or any ingredient.
